Other text information within file is usually a commentary which describes the content. References to multimedia contained within M3U8 files can occur in three forms: as a relative path, an absolute path or an URL address. Besides the references they also include information about the playlist. These are standard text files – they do not contain any real sound data, but only references to multimedia files or subfolders which store them. Files with the M3U8 extension are encoded audio playlists, which use the UTF-8 symbol encoding system.
